What is the Cable Hope Fund?

The Cable Hope Fund is a non-profit corporation created by NCTA on behalf of its members as an industry-wide response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. The Cable Hope Fund’s mission is to assist with relief efforts for individuals and families affected by natural disasters, with particular emphasis on cable employees, and to assist with the longer-term rebuilding of the communities affected. Contributions to the Fund may come from anyone in the cable industry including corporations and individuals.

Is the Cable Hope Fund only for relief and redevelopment related to Hurricane Katrina?

While it was established to be a cable industry response to Hurricane Katrina, the Cable Hope Fund is being sustained to assist in other disaster relief and redevelopment efforts.

Who controls the Cable Hope Fund?

The primary controlling authority is the Board of Directors of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA). NCTA staff perform the Fund’s administrative functions.

How are the monies contributed to the Cable Hope Fund be spent?

Money from the Cable Hope Fund will be used to provide relief, support and solace for cable industry employees and others affected by natural disasters. It will also be used to provide assistance with longer-term rebuilding of communities in ravaged regions.

What percent of the contributions made to the Cable Hope Fund is used for disaster relief and redevelopment, and what percent is used to cover administrative overhead?

One hundred percent of the money contributed to the Cable Hope Fund is used to support its mission directly; none of the money is used on administrative overhead. NCTA will donate all administrative fees.

Are contributions to the Cable Hope Fund tax deductible?

The U.S. Internal Revenue Service has determined the Cable Hope Fund to be a 501(c)(3) entity and contributions made to it are tax deductible.
